Split between Pembroke and Allenstown, this CDP (census-designated place) is made up of under 6,000 people. Suncook was originally formed as a village along the banks of Suncook River, which drops about 70 feet in half a mile just next to town and right before meeting up with the Merrimack River. Most of the late 19th century commercial village center in Suncook is included in the National Register of historic Places. Suncook briefly had a shortline railroad company called the Suncook valley Railroad that went northeast to Barnstead and northwest to Concord, but was discontinued in 1952.
